Protect Yourself: Register Your Card With MasterCard

If you plan on using your National Bank Of Kansas City debit card to make purchases over the Internet, you must register it with MasterCard® SecureCode™. Registering your card is an excellent way to protect your card from unwanted usage due to fraud or stolen card identity. Because only you know your code, or password, someone who has obtained only your card number would not be able to use it on a SecureCode website to make purchases.

What Is MasterCard SecureCode?
MasterCard SecureCode is a security service provided by MasterCard. A private code means added protection against unauthorized use of your card when you shop at participating online retailers.

How Does MasterCard SecureCode Work?
First, you need to register your card with MasterCard SecureCode. Once you've registered your own private SecureCode, you will automatically be prompted at checkout to provide your SecureCode each time you make a purchase with a participating online merchant. Your SecureCode is quickly confirmed and then your purchase is completed. Your SecureCode is never shared with the merchant.

How Does MasterCard SecureCode Protect Me?
When you correctly enter your SecureCode during an online purchase, you confirm that you are the authorized cardholder and your purchase is then completed. If an incorrect SecureCode is entered, then the purchase will not be completed. Even if someone knows your debit card number, the purchase cannot be completed without your SecureCode. The SecureCode keeps others from using your card for unwanted purchases.

Where Can I Shop With MasterCard SecureCode?
The list of online vendors that require MasterCard SecureCode continues to grow. MasterCard is continually adding new vendors to the list. When buying from merchants who do not yet participate in SecureCode, you will still be protected from unauthorized purchases with Zero Liability* from MasterCard.

Can I Use MasterCard SecureCode From Any Computer?
Because there is no special software to install, you can shop from virtually any computer and still receive the added protection of MasterCard SecureCode.

What Happens When My Card Expires Or My Billing Information Changes?
Your card issuer will automatically update this information in your profile.

What Happens If I Cancel My Existing Card Then Get A New One With A Different Account Number?
If the above scenario takes place, you will need to register the new card with MasterCard SecureCode. Simply return to this page to register.

How Do I Know If A Merchant Participates In SecureCode?
Most participating merchants display the MasterCard SecureCode logo on their website. Even if you don't see the SecureCode logo, the merchant may still be a participant. In either case, if they participate, you will be prompted to enter your code upon checkout.

What If I Forget My SecureCode?
If you forget your SecureCode when making an online purchase, you will be supplied with your 'Secret Question'. The 'Secret Question' is set up when you register your card. If you answer the question correctly, your purchase will be completed. After finalizing your purchase, you should visit the registration site, click on the 'Forgot SecureCode' link and follow the instructions.

* Zero Liability applies when a MasterCard account is in good standing, cardholders have exercised reasonable care in safeguarding your card, and when a cardholder has not reported two or more unauthorized events in the past 12 months. Zero liability is a product of MasterCard and not National Bank Of Kansas City and it does not apply MasterCard-branded cards issued to an entity other than a natural person or primarily for business, commercial, or agricultural purposes, except for the Debit MasterCard BusinessCard® Card. It also does not apply outside the U.S. region, or if a PIN is used as the cardholder verification method for the unauthorized transaction(s).
